This presentation will seek to provide a brief overview of death investigation in South Africa, exploring the relevance and diverse applications of interrogating and investigating death in society. The latter may extend from criminal case investigation, academic and anatomical investigations as well as researching cause and overall pattern of death. A critical review and comment pertaining to the current legal framework, physical infrastructure, institutional policies and the adequacies of vocational structures, career pathways and training platforms will be provided. It is hoped that such discourse may stimulate critical thinking and debate which may help to modernise and enhance death investigation in South Africa.
