






Prof Gert Saayman
Gert is registered as a medical practitioner and as a specialist forensic pathologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. He has more than 35 years of experience in the field of forensic medicine and pathology and is still routinely engaged in the medico-legal investigation of death.
He holds appointment as the head of the Department of Forensic Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Pretoria and concurrently, as Chief Specialist in the Gauteng Department of Health (Forensic Pathology Service). He has performed many thousands of medico-legal investigations into unnatural deaths (including scene visits and autopsies) and has participated in numerous inquests, trials and other forensic investigations and legal inquiries and hearings.
He is actively engaged in research in the field of forensic medicine and science and is responsible for the postgraduate training programs in forensic medicine/science and medical criminalistics at the University of Pretoria.
